About Asher's Heart

Our son, Asher, was diagnosed with a CHD called Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome when he was 20 weeks gestation. After getting to full term, he was born on February 2, 2015.  He was transferred to American Family Children’s Hospital shortly after birth.  He had a cardiac catherization done and we found out that he also had right dependent arteries.  On February 10th he underwent his open-heart surgery.  The surgery was successful but while they were getting him settled in the room, Asher had a heart attack.  To stabilize him, they had to put him on ECMO.  We were told that his heart went through too much damage from his heart attack that we would either need to say goodbye or take him the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and put him on a heart transplant list.  We decided to fight and he was transferred on February 12th.   Once we got to Milwaukee and him on a transplant list, his liver and kidneys shut down.  For the next two weeks the doctors and staff worked tirelessly at recovering his organs, but they never responded and his body slowly showed signs of being on ECMO.  It finally got to the point that there was nothing more that they could do.  It was time to send him to his heavenly home in the arms of Jesus. He received full healing on February 26, 2015. He fought for 24 days and went through many procedures. He went through more in 24 days than what most do in a lifetime.  His life touched and inspired many through his journey.  Our lives will forever be changed by Asher.  It opened our eyes to what families go through and what they need during hospital stays.  Since his passing in 2015, we have created a fund in his honor to support the American Family Children's Hospital’s NICU and Cardiac program.   Our desire and hope is to live on his legacy and share the hope of Jesus through Asher’s life.  Our hearts long for the day that we will be reunited in Heaven for eternity.  We are blessed and honored to walk alongside other families during their journey.
